Chantal Kapteijn is a behavioural biologist that is finishing her PhD on the effects of interventions with horses on military veterans with therapy resistant PTSD. She is currently working for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University. The focus of her career is on “One Welfare” , the interconnection of the welfare of both animals and humans, including the effects of animal assisted interventions. Among research, she is involved in teaching stress-free handling techniques to veterinary students with a focus on how to lower stress during veterinary procedures as much as possible. In addition, she has extensive expertise training all kinds of animals both wild and domesticated, for veterinary procedures based on positive reinforcement techniques. A recurring theme during her career is reducing the effects of traumatic experiences within a One Welfare approach.
