Annick De Jaeger (1963) is paediatrician since 1994 and former pediatric critical care fellow of St Justine Hospital in Montréal (1994-1996). She is since 2000 senior consultant in pediatric critical care(1996) and clinical director at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Ghent University Hospital (Belgium). Besides being internationally involved in research and education related to pediatric critical care and pediatric advanced life support, she has a particular interest in acute and procedural pain in children, continuous PICU analgosedation and withdrawal. She plays a prominent role in the Belgian National Project on Pain in Children since 2008 and is a board member of the Governmental supervisory Committee on Pain projects in adults and children. She is board member of the steering committee “pain management” at the Ghent University Hospital and medical coordinator of the paediatric multidisciplinary pain team; with the team she coordinated and developed numerous protocols and training formats in the field of paediatric pain management and with her PICU colleagues she is involved in intensivist-led procedural sedation for invasive and non-invasive procedures in children hospitalized (Children’s Clinic and Pediatric Burn Care Unit).
